Following sell out performances last year, we’re delighted to be welcoming Shakespeare’s Globe on Tour back to The Brewhouse stage for Spring 2020!
Their cast of eight players will once again be putting on a trio of some of Shakespeare’s most beloved productions across three days, with the aim this year to explore the relationship between humankind and Mother Nature. You can look forward to phenomenal performances of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, As You Like It, and The Tempest, each of which investigates the natural world and its great potential for abundance and transformation.
Brendan O’Hea, a director, actor, and education practitioner, takes the reins once again as director, saying:
“I’m so pleased to be back on the road with the Touring Ensemble, transporting the spirit of the Globe around the world with simple, clear storytelling which brings Shakespeare to all. This year we will be performing three plays that explore themes of nature, the city and the places beyond. Storytelling and theatre must play a crucial role in offering ways of re-imagining the world, creating conditions on stage and off for renewal, belonging, empathy, kindness and an experience that embodies our place in the interconnected web of life. And, like the Elizabethan touring players before us, we will leave the choice of play to the most powerful voice in the room: the audience.”
The plays will be performed as a touring production would have been staged back in the 17th century, with a stripped back booth stage and a small but versatile troupe of actors who will perform in multiple roles across all three productions. The cast includes:
Stephenson Ardern-Sodje, Tom Chapman, Anna Crichlow, Mark Desebrock, Emma Ernest, Sara Lessore, Katy Secombe, and Deka Walmsley.
Vanessa-Faye Stanley will also join Brendan this year as Associate Director.
We are one of just a handful of privileged venues to be receiving the Globe on Tour this Spring and we are also fortunate to be hosting a post-show discussion and Q&A with the cast following the performances of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Tempest.
