Tentative Steps – A Note From The Board

“Your continued support during this time has meant the world to us and reiterates just how important venues such as ours are to the local community.”

As the UK takes its tentative steps toward a ‘new normal’, The Brewhouse is happy to announce that our mission to provide great art and culture to the South-West is coming in to view once more.

Your continued support during this time has meant the world to us and reiterates just how important venues such as ours are to the local community. It has been a difficult period for theatres around the world, but it is with great relief that we can say we are coming through it and, although Government Guidance does not yet allow the Brewhouse to reopen for theatrical performances, Cinema is permitted to restart with specific measures in place.

You’ll be pleased to know that much work is going on behind the scenes to make sure we can offer you a safe and enjoyable experience when we re-open the building.

Now, I can say we plan to reopen the Brewhouse for two types of events in August:

  • The Cinema which will offer both regular films and transmissions of live events.
  • Family workshops which will be running for free in Somerset Square in socially distanced groups.

These programmes will be announced through the website with details of our safety procedures and how to book.

We follow Government announcements closely and as soon as we can open safely for live performances, we will do so.   Meanwhile I can say that we are holding our own and, in that sense, doing as well as many but better than some who have unfortunately had to close completely.

Although performances have had to be postponed, good things have also come from the enforced cancellation of our regular programme.   Our Take Part programme has been transformed into an on-line offer which we hope you are enjoying, and we have created a whole new product range under the banner: HomeBrew.  This is encouraging experimental and interesting work which we believe will lead to new offerings from the Brewhouse in future.  Plus, right now, you can contribute to our Community Art Gallery by contributing your own artwork on a monthly theme.

We much look forward to seeing you in the Brewhouse shortly.

Kind regards,

Val Hammond
