HomeBrew Project Offers an Exciting ‘Season of Digital Art’

With support from Arts Council England, we’re keeping audiences and artists healthy, happy and creative during lockdown with this exciting new project.

The Brewhouse Theatre and Arts Centre in Taunton launches HomeBrew, an innovative new digital programme that will provide audiences from, in and around Somerset with access to incredible arts and engagement work. The project will also offer commissions to Somerset-based artists for new digital creative projects that will be shared with the community.

The Brewhouse will be awarding five commissions to Somerset artists to create new artistic pieces that are proudly, inherently digital. This could be a podcast, a video series, an interactive experience, or something nobody’s thought of before. We want to see what artists can make for audiences if the idea of a physical stage is removed altogether.

An online space for members of the local community to share visual work they have created, in response to a monthly theme. Submissions will be open to all, and we will particularly look to engage with those who may not have been able to access the Brewhouse as a physical space (for social, financial or health reasons)

These projects allow us to continue our conversation with local audiences, providing valuable resources to help support Somerset’s health and wellbeing at such a crucial time. HomeBrew aims to build new connections across our local community and beyond, combating loneliness and providing ways to stay fit, keep audiences creative and provide some mental stimulation to keep grey matter healthy and happy.

“We’re really excited to announce HomeBrew, as it gives us an opportunity to stay connected with our local audiences and artists and build new engagements further afield. It’s a really tough time for everyone at the moment, so we really hope that this programme of work will have a positive impact for people, maintaining community connection, combatting loneliness and creating employment for local artists. We’re also excited to see what unique work can be created when you take away the idea of a physical space. We’re not looking for theatre work turned digital, but work that is built with a digital heart” – Will Bourdillon, Artistic Programmes Manager
