Chief Executive

JOB TITLE: Chief Executive

Opportunity for an experienced and entrepreneurial theatre professional to take the lead at The Brewhouse Theatre and Arts Centre in Taunton, Somerset’s County Town.

The Brewhouse Theatre and Arts Centre is operated by Taunton Theatre Association Ltd, a registered charity. We offer a high-quality and diverse performing arts programme together with a broad range of learning and participation activities for all ages, curated cinema and exhibitions.

Since re-opening in 2014, numbers have increased exponentially with more than 72,000 attendances to see or take part in more than 1000 events every year. The focus is on providing great art and entertainment for everyone from toddlers to third agers and all in between. The aim now is to consolidate the success at the Centre itself but also to build on existing work in partnership with others to reach wider groups beyond the venue.

Although essentially programming national and regional touring performers and companies, as well as providing opportunities for community and schools/college shows, The Brewhouse’s acclaimed Christmas musicals have been produced in-house with a professional cast working alongside community ensembles drawn from local children and young people performing to a high standard.

The organisation is rooted in the South West and works with local producers and directors developing new work in the region. This work and working out in the community are aspects we aim to expand in the future.

Existing facilities include a well-equipped 352-seat main auditorium, separate studio theatre, creative hub, gallery space and meeting rooms as well as café and bar facilities and external space.

Working alongside our core employed team, TTA enjoys the support of volunteers who contribute to all aspects of the business.

Having led The Brewhouse to become a lively and successful venue over the past five years, our current Chief Executive is standing down thus creating this opportunity for a new person to take the organisation forward. The Trustees are open to different models of operation. We particularly wish to encourage continuing development of collaborative work beyond the theatre buildings.
