Adapted from the debut novel by Nicholas Searle, The Good Liar is a fascinating peak into the life of seasoned conman Roy Courtnay (Ian McKellan) as he enters into a fraudulent online relationship with a well-to-do widow Betty McLeish (Helen Mirren).

Roy can hardly believe his luck, until he begins to harbour feelings for the intended victim of his scam. As Betty opens up her home to Roy, he begins the most treacherous tightrope walk of his life. Being a conman has never been less cut-and-dry.

The film also stars Russell Tovey as the cynical relative, and Tim Carter. Screenplay adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher. Director Bill Condon is best known for his direction of films such as Chicago, Gods and Monsters, Dreamgirls and 2017’s Beauty and the Beast, and reunites with Ian McKellan for the fourth time on this production.
