Sterling silver stone set ring day course
During this one day course you will learn to make a stunning silver stone set ring with jeweller Melanie Bowler. This project is suitable for beginners and those with a little experience. You will learn traditional jewellery and silver-smithing techniques and processes to achieve your finished piece.
You will make the ring band plus a rub over setting which involves creating a bezel and encasing a cabochon shaped stone. All tools, equipment, silver and choice of gemstones supplied.
Melanie studied at Berkshire College of Art and Design where she gained a BTEC diploma; she then continued her studies at Plymouth College of Art and Design, gaining an HND in Design Metals. Both courses gave her a deep grounding in fundamental jewellery and silversmithing skills. She set up her own business in 1996 and has been making and designing jewellery ever since. She also spent some time working for Mortimers – an independent jewellers in Exeter – experiencing all aspects of the antique jewellery trade.
Melanie has won the Royal Society of British Sculptors medal design competition and the Michael Spiers Jewellery award (Southwest Academy summer exhibition).
