In this workshop you will meet the man behind the paintings, learn about his techniques (eg exploring colour and mark-making) and then try it for yourself alongside artist and teacher, Paul Priestley. Vincent Willem van Gogh was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter who is among the most famous and influential figures in the history of Western art. In just over a decade he created about 2,100 artworks, including around 860 oil paintings, most of them in the last two years of his life.In the first section of this workshop Paul will take on the character of the great artist and talk you through his exciting life and influences. This will be followed by a painting demonstration in the famous style and then the chance to try it yourself.

Participants should come to the workshop with the following basic materials:
• Acrylic paints
• Acrylic brushes – a few sizes
• An old plate for mixing colours
• A3 paper and a board or paper to paint onto
Please bring along your own apron to wear and any other materials of your own you would like to use.
