A festive one day workshop with Lydia Needle. Learn how to needle felt with wool to make a small 3D sculpture. These little reindeer would be perfect to go on the mantelpiece over the Christmas period or to give as a gift.
This class is suitable for complete beginners but is also a great ‘next step’ project if you’ve already made a bear or hare at Lydia’s previous workshop with us. You will make sculptural legs, use armatures for the antlers and learn about colour application.
At the end of the day you will get to take your creation home together with the skills needed to go on and make more lovely reindeer.
There will be a lunch break in the middle of the day with time to go out to a nearby cafe or please feel bring along a packed lunch to eat in the Brewhouse. Tea and coffee will be supplied at the start of the day.
Early booking is strongly recommended as Lydia’s workshops have previously sold out.
About Lydia Needle
I am a fibre artist working in rural Somerset and basically, I’m obsessed with beautiful British wool, it is my inspiration – it is at the heart of everything I do. Because of its fabulous eco-credentials and it’s diverse properties, I am able to sculpt with it or make it gossamer thin in order to make studies of the sea and passing moments, sketches in wool.
All of my work has an emphasis on the environment and sustainability.
In my small pieces, I needle felt into vintage containers; with these, I aim to create vignettes of the more elusive creatures of our countryside as seen in my recent exhibition, FIFTY BEES.
My larger pieces are concerned with the British coast. Using reclaimed materials, beach combed finds and combining them the wool, I aim to emphasise the legacy of man’s interaction upon the sea.
IMPORTANT – PARKING: Please note that the public Coal Orchard car park, adjacent to the Brewhouse, will be closed from Mon 1st Oct – Fri 23 Nov for the demolition of the old swimming baths. We recommend alternative car parking in either Wood Street Car Park (TA1 1UR) or Canon Street Car Park (TA1 1SN). Both are approx. 10 mins walk from the theatre.
