About the exhibition:
Jan is influenced by the changing coastal scenery and weather patterns in North Devon, where she lives and works. During beach walks she finds objects to add to her work, each piece bringing with it memories of a special day or moment enjoying the landscape. She is particularly inspired by the colours of the sea around Saunton, Woolacombe and Croyde.
Jan often takes photographs en route and these have sometimes made their way onto the canvas alongside the beach finds. Over the years she has experimented with various art forms and these mixed media skills have been incorporated into this collection.
About Jan Sears:
Over recent years, there has been a growing understanding of the impact that taking part in the arts can have on health and wellbeing. Personally; painting has given me great joy, inspiration and comfort throughout my whole life and particularly in recent years. As my eyesight has changed my painting style has loosened and has become freer, it is now a closer expression of the pleasure I feel when exploring the countryside and coastal paths. A day in the studio can also be a peaceful time to recoup and relax.
I hope my exhibition here at The Brewhouse may inspire other people to keep on painting and creating whatever life throws your way. I open my garden studio every Friday for visitors so if you are ever in Braunton please do come and visit.
