I Believe in Unicorns is about the power of stories to transform lives.
Based on Michael Morpurgo’s book, this visually stunning and powerfully engaging performance with live music and puppetry tells the story of Tomas, a boy who discovers a love of books when he meets the Unicorn Lady, who reels him in with her irresistible magic tales. But Tomas’s family and his beloved library are soon in danger. Like a Russian doll, the play contains many stories within it, including the story of Noah’s Ark and Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Match Girl. The company bring these to life with superb physical performance, beautiful puppetry and stunning live music.Theatre Alibi has an excellent reputation for imaginative new work. The company last worked with Michael Morpurgo on Why The Whales Came which ran in London’s West End to great critical acclaim. This production has been adapted for the stage by Action for Children’s Arts award winner Daniel Jamieson (The Flying Lovers of Vitebsk, Kneehigh Theatre and Shakespeare’s Globe). Theatre Alibi’s production of I Believe in Unicorns was selected to perform at the International Performing Arts for Youth Festival (IPAY) in Philadelphia in 2015.
Michael Morpurgo is the recipient of many prestigious book awards, including winning the Red House Children’s Book Award a record-breaking four times.
