Felt & Textiles Course – A series of monthly textile workshops, introducing and developing new skills. These first 3 sessions will focus on feltmaking.
Basic materials to bring: Towels and scissors are the materials needed for all classes. Other materials will either be included or available to purchase for a small cost.

Session 1. An introduction to the basics of this ancient craft which uses only merino wool fibres, water and soap to produce the oldest textile known to man. In this first session you will learn the basics of wet feltmaking, thus gaining an understanding of the process by creating a small panel or picture. All materials will be included with this workshop, there will be a small basic equipment list. This class is suitable for complete beginners and those who have done a little felt making.
21 February 2018
Session 2. We will be looking at design within feltmaking, incorporating other fabrics, wool and silk fibres and design techniques to produce a slightly larger and more complicated felted panel. You will develop your skills and gain a better understanding of what can and cannot be successfully incorporated into handmade felt. Suitable for those who already have a knowledge of the feltmaking process. Materials will be available to purchase from the tutor, estimated cost per student £5 max.

Session 3. Introducing 3D felt making. Using the resist method you will learn how to make a small 3D object which could be a bag, laptop case, tea cosy etc. thus developing your felt making skills and learning new techniques. Materials will be available to purchase from the tutor, estimated cost per student £5. Suitable for those who already have a knowledge of the felt making process.
