Distillery Takeover: Scratch Night is an excellent opportunity for our three artists/companies to test their new work in-front of a live audience for the first time and for audience members to experience raw and unrefined performances before anyone else. It really is an exclusive event!

The three brand-new pieces of theatre being shared at Distillery Takeover: Scratch Night are:

  • There’s No Time (The World Is Dying) by Finlay Carroll, Bee Taylor, Jack Hart and Josie Griffiths
  • Mermaids by Jennifer Fletcher & Harry Blake
  • Twelve Dancing Princesses by Pearl Andrews-Horrigan, Hope Thain and Oscar Killen

Each of the visiting companies has also been supported by receiving £2000 seed funding, support from external freelance practitioners and in-kind rehearsal space at the venue.

MERMAIDS by Jennifer Fletcher & Harry Blake

MERMAIDS is a warm-hearted comedy about a drama group in a remote Cornish Fishing Village. It is a feel-good show about teenage obsession, local politics, and our need for glitter in a world full of grey.

Jennifer and Harry have received creative support from Poppy Burton-Morgan to develop MERMAIDS. The piece will be performed by Anna Morgan and Victoria Hoyle.

THERE’S NO TIME (THE WORLD IS DYING) by Finlay Carroll, Josie Griffiths, Bee Taylor & Jack Hart

The company describe THERE’S NO TIME (THE WORLD IS DYING) as a “radical performance project challenging the potential of theatre as a means of responding to the climate emergency”. They are very excited to be sharing their work with an audience at Distillery Takeover: Scratch Night.

Finlay, Bee and Josie have also been joined by Jo Newman (Dramaturg) and Jack Hart (Performer) for their R&D.

TWELVE DANCING PRINCESSES by Hope Thain, Pearl Andrews-Horrigan & Oscar Killen

TWELVE DANCING PRINCESSES is a modern retelling of the classic fairy tale featuring songs and diverse dance styles from around the world. The story focuses on Felicity, a rebellious teenager with a passion for street dance, as she leads a student revolution against her teacher’s ban on modern dance styles.

Hope, Pearl and Oscar have joined by Karla Shacklock (Choreographer) to help create TWELVE DANCING PRINCESSES during their Distillery Takeover. The piece is performed by Max Guest, Chiara Lari and Ella Tagg.

The Distillery at Taunton Brewhouse is kindly supported by Garfield Weston Foundation through the Weston Culture Fund.
