Based on the best-selling novel by Ian McEwan and featuring a critically-acclaimed performance from Emma Thompson.
The Children Act concerns the ethical dilemma that much-admired judge Fiona Maye (Emma Thompson) is faced with when she has to rule whether the cancer-suffering son of Jehovah’s Witnesses should receive the blood transfusion which would save his life, against his parents’ wishes.
It’s a heavy burden to carry and the impending breakdown of her childless marriage to academic husband Jack (Stanley Tucci) only adds to the sense of tension and unresolved moral questions that make this intelligent, sensitive film a rivetting cinematic experience.
