In this affable Britcom, Eric (Rob Brydon) is a depressed accountant suffering a mid-life crisis, who joins a motley crew of middle-aged chaps to form an unlikely male synchronised swimming team.

As one of the swimmers quips: “we’re just a bunch of middle-aged men who meet up in trunks that are too small for us and make funny little patterns in the pool”. Beneath the humour though is a sympathetic, deftly-handled study of camaraderie and mid-life fulfilment that is neither preachy nor flippant.

Loosely based on the true story of the Swedish team that won the Men’s Synchronised Swimming World Championships in 2007, Sight & Sound called it “a tale of sporting amateurs, underdogs shambling through the shallow end or dodging a kid’s turd in a peeling lido pool, it couldn’t be more English”.
