Widower Frank Fisher (Nick Offerman) is about to close his record shop after 17 years of trading and his daughter Sam (Kiersey Clemons) is about leave him to go off to college.

Both being musically inclined they have regular “jam sessions”, which one night produces a song – largely written by Sam – that Frank uploads to Spotify. When the track gets played in a coffee shop Frank is convinced that he and his daughter should take a shot at a career in music.

It’s a bumpy ride that explores the unvoiced emotional issues of grief that exist between father and daughter.

Offerman and Clemons are the stars but the impeccable Ted Danson and the always excellent Toni Collette also deserve a mention in what Peter Bradshaw in The Guardian called “a film with unassuming indie charm.”
