• Volunteer

The Brewhouse owes its very existence to the hard work and dedication of a team of volunteers who fought, campaigned, fundraised and finally built a theatre and arts centre for Taunton and its surrounding community. When the venue opened in 1977 it had one full time member of staff and 450 volunteers!  Over thirty years later we still have a team of regular volunteers who enjoy assisting in some way, from selling tickets in our box office or hanging pictures in the galleries to helping out with our marketing.

It is also our policy to nurture local talent, if you want a future working in the arts whether as a hip-hop dancer, a sculptor, a technician, or a classical musician, spending some time with us is not only exciting, it will help you understand how the industry works.  Volunteering or work experience placements are a great way to enhance your C.V. and gain valuable arts administration experience in a busy professional organisation.

Here are some of the ways you could help:

Box Office duties: involves dealing with members of the public, answering the telephone, selling tickets via our computerised ticketing system and answering general enquiries.

Promotion / marketing: helping out with mailings (stickering / stuffing / franking, etc) or become an ambassador by distributing brochures, leaflets or posters in your local community and telling people about our work.

Reception duties: answering the telephone, transferring calls, taking messages and answering general queries.

Accommodating a performer: do you have a spare room? Can you offer accommodation to visiting artists and/or technicians working at The Brewhouse?

Work experience: by spending a dedicated amount of time working within one department you will really be able to make a difference. Perhaps you have design or IT skills, you may be interested in working with our technical team or would just like to find out how a theatre and arts centre operates.  We take as many placements as we can each year, but competition is strong so be clear about why you want to work with us and what you have to offer.

Special opportunities: From time to time we have other specific projects that we invite volunteers to work on which we list on this page.
