News From Nowhere presents
An Oak Tree

Friday 6 June 2008 - Saturday 7 June 2008

by Tim Crouch

An Oak Tree is the story of two men brought together by loss: a father whose daughter has been killed by a car, and the driver of that car, a provincial stage hypnotist. For the first time since the accident, these two men meet, when the father volunteers for the hypnotist’s act.

Tim Crouch plays the Hypnotist. The Father is played by a different guest actor for every performance – male or female. They walk on stage having neither seen nor read a word of the play they’re in... until they’re in it! The result is a breathtaking projection: from one actor to another, from hypnotist to subject, from audience to the stage.

An Oak Tree has been performed with over 240 actors to date (including Christopher Eccleston, Roger Lloyd Pack, Gina McKee and David Morrissey), run for 3 months off-Broadway in New York, and sold-out a month run at London’s Soho Theatre as well as touring in the UK and internationally.

“Sometimes, if a show is particularly good, it seeks you out. ‘Just been to see An Oak Tree by Tim Crouch’ comes an email from a knowledgeable friend. ‘Absolutely f****ing fantastic!!!!  Seriously, you don’t want to miss this’”
RUARIDH NICOLL, THE OBSERVER
Soho Theatre 2007

"This kind of acting without a net is nothing short of thrilling… rewards abound for actor and audience alike."
DOUG STRASSLER, VARIETY

“It’s philosophy in action, playful and seriously thought-provoking.”
INDEPENDENT ON SUNDAY

“vividly creates the live, raw, communal experience of theatre”
