April: Edgelands
Thursday 26 April 2012
8pm
A night of folk music on the edge, mixing traditional sounds and improvisation plus projections, exploring the strange spaces where urban and rural, past and present, dream, history and myth merge.
Featured performers include Cliff Stapleton on hurdey gurdey and Dominic lash, double bass.
Cliff Stapleton is one of the countries leading hurdy gurdy players, probably best known as a member of Blowzabella, featuring on their first four albums, and was highly influential in introducing French dance music to England. He has worked with folk musicians like Andy Cutting and Chris Wood and also in a much more experimental context with two modern electro bands, Coil and Cyclobe. He is currently also playing with Andy Letcher (pipes), and s performing solo experimental music as a support to the group, Spiro.
