<endDate>Sat, 04 Sep 2010 00:00:00 BST</endDate>

A full band show that takes in the entire range of Simon and Garfunkel’s career, including favourite songs Fifty Ways To Leave Your Lover, Diamonds On The Soles Of Her Shoes and older numbers like, Homeward Bound and Cecilia. There are tunes a plenty from Simon’s solo career and some surprise solo Garfunkel numbers too.

Simon and Garfunkel are played to perfection, bringing in elements of their famously fractious relationship, as well as replicating the beautiful harmonies flawlessly. This is a wonderful show filled with excellent music, nostalgia, and a genuine love for some great musicians.

Other songs include: Mrs Robinson, The Only Living Boy In New York, The Sounds of Silence and Me, Julio Down by the Schoolyard, Fifty Ways to Leave Your Lover, Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes, Homeward Bound and Cecilia.

What the press say

Since graduating from Birmingham Conservatoire in summer 2003, Jim Moray is described as the most significant development in folk music in the last 30 years, causing a revolution in the folk world with a series of award-winning albums. He is a singer and multi-instrumentalist who creates startlingly contemporary recordings of England’s most traditional songs.

At the age of 21, Jim released his debut album Sweet England on his own unlikely named Niblick-Is-A-Giraffe Records. Just a month before he had completed the final year of his music degree, submitting the album as his final project recording it for next to nothing in a bedroom studio made up of equipment bought with his student loan. He had played virtually every instrument himself adding in just a few pieces performed by fellow students. He had also engineered, arranged and produced the songs, learning how to record as he went along. The final album was causing waves even before it was released.

Since then Jim has gone from performing in local folk clubs to playing the main stage at Cambridge Folk Festival, Sidmouth Folk Festival, WOMAD and beyond. He has been featured in The Independent, Guardian, Mojo, The Telegraph, Uncut and The Times and reviewed in countless other publications here and abroad. He has performed radio sessions and been interviewed on BBC Radio 2, 3. 4 and 6Music and been featured on TV several times including on the landmark BBC4 Folk Britannia series. He has also had his music featured on the trailer for ITV’s drama Murder City. He has toured in the UK, Benelux, Australia and Canada.

In February 2004 Jim received both the Horizon Award as best newcomer and the prestigious Album Of The Year Award for Sweet England at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. He has followed Sweet England with two further album ‘Jim Moray’ (2006) and ‘Low Culture’ (2008) which went on to win the fRoots Critics’ Poll Album of the Year Award, Mojo’s Folk Album of the Year and gain him three nominations in the BBC Folk Awards 2009.

What the press say

"On first hearing, Sweet England is startling. By the tenth listen, it's a revolutionary experience."
HMV CHOICE

"The reinvention of folk music, Jim Moray’s debut CD, a word-of-mouth sensation, is the biggest leap forward in folk for 30 years."
THE TELEGRAPH

"Moray’s inventive rearrangement of such familiar ballads as Early One Morning and Raggle Taggle Gypsies may just be the most significant new development in English folk music since Fairport Convention’s Liege and Leif."
UNCUT

"The best album of the year came from Jim Moray, whose classy and experimental Low Culture made use of anything from African kora to hip-hop."
THE GUARDIAN

"Those who feel that the folk idiom has nothing to express to the truly modern and young should acquire this album forthwith…This is a genuinely fabulous record."
THE INDEPENDENT ON SUNDAY

Wed 13 - Fri 15 Oct & Wed 20 - Sat 23 Oct

By turns hilariously funny and tragically sad, one man reviews his sixty-nine years with the aid of tape recordings made every year on his birthday. A brilliant theatrical illustration of the internal conversation we have with ourselves. Bananas and alcohol abound in this one man show about ambition, sacrifice and growing old.

Tom Owen from the longest running comedy series in the world, Last Of The Summer Wine, returns to his theatrical roots for this challenging role performed in the intimate setting of the Studio.

Krapp's Last Tape is often sighted as the most autobiographical piece by Samuel Beckett, a writer of great skill and intellect, winner of the 1969 Nobel Prize for Literature

Shakespeare’s Sir John, now very short of cash, pursues two wealthy wives of Windsor for their money, but does not bank on their determination to foil him. Their merry tricks lead to his come-uppance, and to the chastisement of their own, too jealous, husbands. Intertwined in all is a tender love story. With Verdi’s lyrical melodies and sparkling orchestration, this opera is a joy. A true ensemble work with tricks, disguises and a love of life, Falstaff inspires the passionate admiration of opera lovers everywhere.

Those who love life at its richest, cannot help but love Falstaff in all its glory.

Mid Wales Opera is proud to announce the company debut of their new Artistic Director Nicholas Cleobury who has chosen Martin Lloyd-Evans to direct and Bridget Kimak to design this brand new production of Verdi’s final comic masterpiece. Accompanied by the Mid Wales Opera Chamber Orchestra, the band of singers assembled by Nicholas bring fantastic voices to the colourful array of characters.

Rooted in a personal exploration of the rich spectrum between British and Indian identities; dance, live music and spoken word collide in TEN. Three men make this cultural journey brought together by the contagious rhythm of an ancient Indian ten-beat time cycle. This seductively physical performance is visual artist Hetain Patel’s first piece for theatre.

Devised in collaboration with Nottingham-based writer Michael Pinchbeck (The White Album, Nottingham Playhouse) and Tabla player Hiren Chate (Complicite, A Disappearing Number), this is visual artist Hetain Patel’s first piece for theatre.

What the press say

“It is Patel’s skilled precision in realising an almost seamless harmony of his culturally and historically divergent source material that gives his installations a distinctive resonance.” THE GUARDIAN

“An excellent and highly recommendable piece of work. Hetain has a very engaging and accessible style - as do the two excellent musicians/performers that work with him, tackling questions of identity, belonging and nationality in a way that is both entertaining and thought provoking. An excellent starting point for schools, colleges or other groups looking at these issues - although it would appeal to all.”
ARTS COUNCIL ENGLAND

"Hetain Patel distills all that is amazing about true creativity. There is magic and innovation in his work. There is real depth in what he does. Here is someone who is not only a great ambassador for Nottingham, but a creative who inspires"
NOTTINGHAM EVENING POST

This exhibition of new and recent paintings by Kay Lewis-Bell focuses on portraits of local Somerset women, many made from observations in and around The Brewhouse. Artist Kay says “Women are my main source of ideas. I collect images from around me. The fleeting glance, the unexpected meeting, the shared history, are gathered and stored ready for the next painting. Images are there to be caught and stories there to be told.”

Kay Lewis-Bell graduated from Bath Spa University in 2004 and has since exhibited widely across the South West. As part of this exhibition she is working with local school children on Stories From Drawing which will also be shown at The Brewhouse.

This exhibition forms an exploration into artist led initiatives, enterprises and activities in Somerset. Artist led initiatives are a proven, long standing way of creating new, independent opportunities. In this time of financial instability is it becoming more important for artists to work together to make things happen? This exhibition, supported by the Reveal partnership, maps how artists are working and asks if this is changing? It aims to highlight the development of artist led activity in this rural county and to support these collaborations, structures and networks that are currently emerging.

Two enchanting and explosive dances with dazzling moves and exciting story-lines with an European twist.

Within (by Noone), sees a lone dancer, drawn into her own imaginary world by four compelling characters. Touching duets, bodies crashing furniture and explosive movement describe the unorthodox soundtrack of classical English and Indian instruments by Spanish composer Pedro Navarrete.

Splinter (by Tannion) is dance theatre driven by a thunderous Japanese soundscape. Fuelled by the promise of progress, StopGAP’s dancers wrestle for the balance of delicate humility and creative conflict that honest cohesion demands. Thrown into another world, will the group subsist or splinter?

StopGAP’s performances have inspired audiences across Europe, with dazzling moves and exciting story-lines, audiences will be thrilled by the drama that will unfold.

Developed in association with Greenwich Theatre

'I hope you like my story - I wrote it for you just to show I could.
It’s about the old tractor and it’s about Joey and it’s about me.'

It sometimes felt as though time had stood still down on the family farm – swallows nesting in the eaves, the old Fordson tractor quietly rusting at the back of the barn, Grandpa still tending his chickens - that is, until the summer his grandson finished school and came to stay, and the old man started telling stories of what it had been like on the farm when he was a boy.

Award-winning former Children’s Laureate Michael Morpurgo has written a compelling sequel to his much-loved novel, War Horse. It’s a moving account of the changing face of the English countryside and a beautifully-crafted reminder that stories really can reach out across the generations.

Now this magical tale of the bonds linking grandfather to grandson and ultimately both to the land has been brought to life by critically-acclaimed New Perspectives Theatre Company in a delightful new family show combining drama, storytelling and original music.

By Michael Morpurgo
Adapted by Daniel Buckroyd
Director: Daniel Buckroyd
Composer: Matt Marks
Lighting Designer: Mark Dymock

What the press say

"So powerful - John Walters gets right inside the dogged Grandfather’s skin - Matt Powell plays his Grandson with an openness, warmth and ingenuousness that disarms the children and endears them to his tale - moments of high drama - lots of comedy too - when the Fordson finally chugs into life, the children just can’t contain their joy.’"
THE STAGE

Star of Radio 4’s Shappi Talk is back with a brand new show about wanting it all.

The daughter of an exiled writer and comic from Iran, Shappi’s upbringing has been in no way conventional. From mental illness to opium dens, it’s all gone on in the Khorsandi household. Could this upbringing of seemingly having nothing be the reason why she now wants its all?

Feisty, flirty and effortlessly funny she handles every subject with a razor sharp wit, softened only by her deliciously dizzy delivery and endless charm.

Love is in the air in Illyria, turning the land into one of make-believe and illusion. Countess Olivia’s moral household clashes head on with Sir Toby Belch’s drunken debauchery. Duke Orsino relentlessly pursues Olivia, but she needs a lot of convincing. Meanwhile, Olivia’s steward Malvolio becomes the butt of the joke when he falls for a prank that results in him wearing a pair of comical yellow stockings, mistakenly believing that Olivia is in love with him.

In this fast paced show, the open stage filled with musical instruments, sound desks, microphones and random mess is an unlikely setting for Twelfth Night but as the multi-talented cast create their own music to accompany their performances, the scenes are set with immaculate clarity and ambience.

The audience are involved right from the start. There’s heckling throughout the play and audience participation during the scenes of drunken debauchery. As some have the chance to hurl things at the actors, others are chosen to join the mayhem on stage. Those remaining in their seats are left with tears of laughter streaming down their faces, spontaneously applauding as possibly the funniest and most clever scenes from a Shakespeare play unfold before us. This is a fast paced show and even those keen for a straighter, more traditional performance will be enchanted as everyone becomes part of the fun.

An ensemble at the peak of its form, the internationally acclaimed Cwmbach Male Choir showcases its beautiful sound, thrilling technique and exhilarating close harmony talents. Formed in 1921, and hailing from the Welsh valleys, it has performed to great acclaim at the most prestigious venues in the UK, has toured extensively worldwide and appeared with world renowned artists and orchestras.

With a diverse musical repertoire, this is a superbly crafted and fabulously entertaining recital that will send chills up the spine.

What the press say

"This choir has the best second bass section I have heard in years. The choir has a wide dynamic range and sings with a full throated choralism and frequently the effect was quite thrilling. Their soft singing was also particularly lovely. Prestigious singing indeed."
BELFAST TELEGRAPH

"After hearing just the opening bars by the Cwmbach Choir it was immediately obvious that this was going to be a World class performance. The final part of the concert was an emotional one for me although I found out later that I was not alone. Aside from the highly charged emotions and thrilling experience I particularly noticed the roundness of the sound and evenness which all choirs try to achieve. This together with singing from the heart, made for pure magic."
GABRIOLA RADIO, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA

By C.S. Lewis
Adapted by Theresa Heskins

Four children step through a mysterious wardrobe and find themselves in Narnia, a mysterious, fairytale land of magical proportions where woodland animals talk and mythical creatures roam. But the land lies under the power of the White Witch who has cast a terrible spell – it is forever winter, but never Christmas.

With Mr Tumnus, Mr and Mrs Beaver and a host of forest friends, Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter join the greatlion, Aslan, to battle the White Witch. Can they triumph? And can they bring happiness, and Christmas, to the land of Narnia once again?

Another exciting adventure from the company who brought you last year’s When Santa Fell To Earth. C.S.

This show is sold out.

Punt and Dennis continue their tour at The Octagon Yeovil next season. Booking opens on Monday 8 November. Click here to go to their website or call the box office on 01935 422884

This brand new show sees Punt and Dennis return to the live arena after four years.

Watching them on stage is like listening to counterpoint harmony. Only a lot funnier. They are two completely different comics who complement each other in such a way as to make the whole greater than the sum of the parts – and the parts are pretty good. Steve Punt is the one who looks like someone has dressed Eric Idle up as Marcus Brigstocke. He is the one with the clipboard, the serious expression and the proper stuff to say. You know, satire and things like that.

Hugh Dennis is the one with grown-up hair, a jawline that makes David Coulthard look like a chinless wonder and easy access to his inner Leslie Phillips. He does ridiculous mimes, great impressions and generally spends his time undermining his little chum. It is very, very funny. And very, very clever. They sing The Wheels on the Bus and spend an inordinate amount of time as a velociraptor.

They have a go at politics, and explain the political ramifications of chickens crossing roads. They squeeze new material out of the Olympics, the BBC and plumbers.

Hugh Dennis’s popularity has catapulted since their last tour, following his role in the award-winning Outnumbered (BBC1) and his quick-witted quips as a regular panellist on Mock the Week (BBC2). He and Steve Punt also enjoy continued success in the award-winning and acclaimed BBC Radio 4 programme The Now Show.

What the press say

"The kings of satirical comedy"
THE GUARDIAN

"Their closing routine, involving a drunk man and a map (oh, and satire), was unbelievably funny. This is a real class act”
THE SCOTTSMAN 2007****

This large scale installation artwork draws on Ben Martin's interests in astronomy and music. Here he collaborates with musician Suzie Shrubb in association with
Chichester University.

The installation uses publicly available astronomical data (recordings of the radio signals received from pulsars) to present a 3D model of the Milky Way, creating a sound environment which the audience can move through freely. As you move through the work, the sound relationships between the elements constantly change.

There will be a series of participatory events, workshops and live musical accompaniments programmed alongside this exhibition.

They say all political careers end in tears. In Gyles Brandreth’s case it’s tears of laughter as the actor, author, One Show reporter, former MP and government whip turns stand-up.

This is Brandreth unleashed on the stars he’s known (one-to-one) and the wicked ways of Westminster (no expenses spared). Without hesitation or repetition (and just a touch of deviation), Gyles delivers a dazzling evening of wit, wordplay and hilarious name-dropping.

True Stories is a combination of traditional songs and Simpson’s own original compositions, receivingwide critical acclaim when it was released in 2009. Ranging from solo guitar instrumentals to full band arrangements it features some of the finest musicians around.

Influenced by Northumbrian dance tunes, Anglo Scots ballads, blues songs, New Orleans jazz and R and B, the sounds are highly distinctive. Simpson’s own songs are beautifully written and at times most unusual in form.

What the press say

“Although it’s his guitar virtuosity that’s frequently lauded, it’s as an interpreter of song that Martin Simpson really scores. Simpson delivers narratives with colour and conviction. Fittingly be-gonged several times at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, Martin Simpson is taking his place, not just as a hero for guitar-besotted acolytes but as one of the national treasures of English traditional music."
BBC RADIO 2
