Incensed at being snubbed at the christening of Princess Aurora, the wicked fairy Carabosse lays a curse on the child, proclaiming that she will one day pierce her finger - and die. But the Lilac Fairy intervenes, and when the fateful day arrives, the princess and the entire palace instead fall into a deep sleep. A century later, Prince Florimund is guided to the castle by the Lilac Fairy, overcoming the obstacles created by Carabosse, and awakening the sleeping princess with a kiss..

It’s 1983 - Madonna releases her first album, Boy George’s Culture Club is top of the UK singles chart with Karma Chameleon, and 13 year old future contemporary dance star Tom Roden illegally tapes the first Now That’s What I Call Music LP onto a C60 cassette.

Fast forward 26 years – Madonna is a divorcee on a mission to adopt Africa, Boy George has been in prison on an abduction charge and Tom has teamed up with Pete Shenton to form New Art Club. Finding the cassette one day, the two of them listen to it and a brand new show is born.

Join Britain’s funniest dance duo as they deconstruct this first ever Now album and jump headlong into the dark pool of days gone by and come out covered in a filthy 80’s gunk. Wrestling with classic hits from Bonnie Tyler and Duran Duran, amongst others, will Tom and Pete be able to save the audience from drowning in nostalgia?

Following the screening of Age of Stupid last November, The Brewhouse and the Taunton Transition Town group team up again to bring you Food Inc, a look under the rather disturbing lid of the American food industry to expose the highly mechanized underbelly of a system that puts profits before consumer health.

Directed by Robert Kenner, it features interviews with such experts as Eric Schlosser (Fast Food Nation), Michael Pollan (The Omnivore's Dilemma, In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto) along with forward thinking social entrepreneurs like Stonyfield's Gary Hirshberg and Polyface Farms' Joel Salatin. Food, Inc. reveals surprising—and often shocking truths—about what the US diet is really like, how it's produced and what the future might hold.

Think it doesn't happen over here too? Join in the post-film panel discussion to share your own views on how we feed ourselves now in the UK, and what we need to do to make our food supplies both sustainable and ethical into the future. Find out more about food co-ops, 'People's Supermarkets', community supported agriculture schemes and more.

Our local guest panelists will include Ian Tremain, Nuffield Farming Scholar; Tom Nielson, gardener, environmental designer and permaculturist; and Beth French, consumer representative on the Board of Taunton's Farmers Market.

Start time: 7.30pm.

by Laurie Lee

A new adaptation by Daniel O’Brien
Directed by Abigail Anderson
‘I belonged to a generation which saw, by chance, the end of a thousand years’ life’

Rural Gloucestershire, England 1917. Horses pulling ploughs. Charabanc outings to Weston-super-Mare. The frozen white winters and blazing orange summers of memory. Heroic fourteen year old giant Spadge Hopkins. Tyrannical teacher Old Crabby. The warring ancient rival grannies Trill and Wallon. And of course that first, unforgettable, cider-fuelled encounter in the harvest fields. Laurie Lee’s story puts on record the England that we have traded for the petrol engine in an evocative prose poem that sparkles, winks and wryly smiles.
Winners of Best Live Act, BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2009

English folk powerhouse The Demon Barbers teams up with some of England's most exciting young traditional dancers to create a high energy music and dance spectacular.

Over the last five years The Demon Barbers have gained major recognition for their original and imaginative approach to traditional music and song. They take mainly traditional ballads, strange tales of myth and magic and coil them, twist them, make them stranger, darker, becoming tales of gothic danger; they don’t so much make folk rock as make traditional tales quiver and pulse with electricity.

The line up comprises of Damien Barber (vocals/guitar/concertina), Bryony Griffith (fiddle/vocals), Will Hampson (melodeon/harmonica), Lee Sykes (electric bass) and Ben Griffith (drums).
“When you get prejudice it starts off in such a... dear, little, gentle way”
Ryalla Duffy, Romani Gypsy
1000 years ago they began to travel. Roaming the earth in search of a home. So begins an incredible story; of survival against the odds, of being hunted to the brink of extinction and of enduring the greatest horrors known to man.

From the ancient fields of India to a scrap of land on the edge of civilisation, King of the Gypsies lifts the latch on a bold, brash and vibrant world. A world that clings to life with a passionate embrace. A world that, despite everything, is still fighting to survive.
