Acker Bilk’s career is one of British music’s success stories. Acker Bilk and his Paramount Jazz Band first gained worldwide fame with the hit single Stranger On The Shore in 1962. It stayed in the charts for 55 weeks and was the first number 1 hit in the UK and USA simultaneously.
Acker has received an MBE for his services to the music industry and was recognised at the BBC Jazz Awards for his unique contribution to jazz in the UK. Recent projects include concert and album collaborations with Chris Barber, Van Morrison and the late Humphrey Lyttelton.
