I visited this show with three friends, and we were all bitterly disappointed. There was no introduction to set the scene. The childrens'singing and dancing were very good, but the second half was a cacophony of sound against a shaky background of repeated scenes. As the daughter of a Lancashire weaver, I was looking forward to music that would be reminiscent of this era.My mother would have been as disappointed as I was at this protrayal. I visited a weaving shed many times as a child, and although it was noisy it was never as unpleasant as King Cotton. The story was disjointed, and the two singers were neither tuneful or enjoyable. As for the trumpeter in the flat cap,he told us to refer to our notes during the performance. How exactly, in the darkness? I have attended many shows and dined out frequently at the Brewhouse. Prior to last night I have always been full of praise, and have written to the Gazette on a couple of occasions about the fine performances. My friends and I could not under stand your decision to put this on in Taunton, and felt cheated out of £10.

I just wanted to say what a fantastic time we had on Thursday. My friends invited me to this and I didn't know what to expect. It was great to see such accomplished musicians weaving together a story of different communities over the ages. It was also lovely that the local community were able to get involved, it's a pity that more wasn't made of this, but I really enjoyed the young people's work! Well done Brewhouse!

I have to say this show was a shambles:no introduction, incomprehensible storyline, shuffling and ill-prepared flat-capped compere, amateurish programme(which we were told to refer to if we didn't understand what was going on;with houselights down,a little difficult) and a back projection with written commentary almost entirely obscured bt the instruments. At the very least this show should have been listed under the amateur heading of the brochure. The true amateurs, the choir who opened the show, were the best bit of the evening.
