Monday 10th could have been a really good night. unfortunately there was way too much audience participation...please let the comics do thier jobs. it ruins it for the rest of us when you shout out random, pointless things. perhaps the brewhouse could get a bouncer in to stop this happening in the future? it ruined the night for my friends and myself...and probably for the performers. I felt sorry for them by the end of the evening.

hi Thom thanks for the message. I agree that last night was very noisy, we had a few people in who did not know how to behave in a comedy club - but I understand there has not been a regular one in Taunton before so why should they? like any show the audience gets out what they put in, and some of the heckling was inappropriate and interfered with the flow of the acts. however I would hate to employ bouncers as we are a public building and it should be a friendly informal atmosphere, the well behaved are clearly the majority and the noisy few were being closely monitored. please don't get put off, we are putting measures in place to educate the minority about how to behave so we all enjoy our Monday nights. hope to see you and your friends back soon!

hey is there any age restriction to the comedy night? and also is there some sort of open mic night? like can new acts sign up who havent quite done anything before?

Hi Rosie by law you need to be 14 years old to enter a bar on your own, but because of the content of the comedy we recommend over 18s only. We don't have an open mic slot at the moment but if you send through any details we can include a new comedian who wants to try out material in the line up. thanks for your feedback.

Hello all. just thought I would say the comedy club is a great place to be on mondays, so what ever you do please don't stop it! and yes sometimes the heckling can be a bit much, but most of the comedians seem to take it in their stride. I'm sure Robert has it all under control :-) hopefully see you tonight! Liam

Geoff and Jill 12 November Much appreciated and much needed in Taunton and has encouraged us to go to other performances and support The Brewhouse. We are the old ones at the back and a shame there's not more of us in support

I too wnet to the comedy evening on mon 12th Nov. What a great evening. A good excuse to go out with the "lads". Good atmosphere, a few drinks and even more laughs. Keep it up, lets hope wth word spreads and funding for the comedy nights continues. Thanks Nick Stone for nagging us to come each Monday :-)

The comedy last night (12th Nov) was absolutely brilliant. I haven't been to comedy for a while since it started up again and regret that I have missed some. I will be coming every monday from now on. There is not alot to do on a Monday evening so it is great to have something so good to do. I have been recommending it to everyone and will continue to do so. I am sure that the bar will be completely packed with people every Monday night. Thanks to Robert Miles for bringing this to us and his continued support in keeping it going.

Last night was only the fifth time I had been but was far and away the funniest so far. The comics were slik and dealt with the heckles well. It is great to have this event here the only shame is that it isn't packed to the rafters every time. It is rare to get anything for free these days and if it is not supported we will lose it. Spread the word

What a fantastic nights entertainment this weeks comedy club was - An eclectic array of top talent and all for free ! Taunton's best kept secret ! The place should be standing room only every Monday. A wonderful start to the week...

Once again, this Monday night's (12/11/07)was excellent. Three great comedians, all of which I havn't seen before, all original and very funny. Long may the Brewhouse can keep these Monday evenings going, as there is a definite lack of this type of quality entertainment in the Taunton area. Thanks for another great night out.

Last Monday's set of comedians was the best I have seen at the club. Would it be possible to have the performers' names written up somewhere as I now realise that, four days on, I have no idea who I was watching. Thanks Brewhouse for a great night.Robert Higgins

Comedy started well, the compare struck the right note and the audience responded well. The heckles also started some interesting banter, the atmosphere was excellent, and the first comic brilliant but as the evening went on the standard of the performers and one section of the audience deteriorated. If the dark haired lady next to the female physician is one of her patients she has convinced me that homeopathy doesn’t work. It was like watching a car crash in slow motion. By the end her heckling was unfunny and intrusive but a better comedian would have had the ability to control and make use of her random drunken ramblings. The first half was great, the second half was worth what we paid to get in..... oh yes it was free .....so all in all a great value evening. I’m sure there is a quote from the bible – “physician – heal thyself.”.. Hhmm how apt

Monday the 10th December could have been an excellent night. 5 comedians and all looked extremely good. Unfortunately i was sat just in front of a group who had decided that they were better and either decided to shout out stupid comments or just talk between themselves for the night. I unfortunately missed the first 3 guys sets for most of it, but from what i heard were extremely funny and by the time the last two appeared on stage the hecklers had disappeared (probably from being made to look like such fools by the talented comedians) and i managed to listen to some of the best jokes i have heard down there and i have been going for over a year and a half now. I would love all of them, expecailly the headliner, to return to the brewhouse when we don't have such idiots in the audience as i think they could all laugh the house down. Well down Mr Miles, you have brought some of the best new and up and coming comedians down here and make me come spend my money at your bar every monday.

Went to the comedy night for the first time last night and had a totally amazing night. What was even more impressive was it was free entry. We were treated to 4 different comedians all of whom were very funny. If you dont do anything on a Monday night i recomend it too anyone. you wont be disapointed

I just thought id like to air my views on the recent Lee Evans booking scenario. Im a regular to the brewhouse, mostly for the comedy club, enjoying the monthly headliners and the odd evening in the bar on mondays too. As a result ive become more interested in other shows and on occasion have attended things that i wouldn't have thought have interested me - a success on behalf of the brewhouse to gain the interest of members of the community and show how accessible theatre is. So when I was at the recent Lucy Porter show and Mr Miles announced the Lee Evans show to the loyal comedy crowd there was a genuine buzz that we were party to a 'heads up' and early notice on the show to ensure we could attempt to get tickets. Now I am not a member so I know that any protest will be discounted on this basis, but ALL tickets for BOTH shows were snapped up by gold/silver members, I had not realised that so many members were interested in comedy - I now know that i am incredibly lucky to have been able to get tickets to shows in previous months and can only assume that the empty seats at these shows were as a result of this fanatical comedy membership having bought tickets only to have the misfortune to be unavailable on the night. Apart from being hugely disappointed to miss out on what im sure will be a great two nights of entertainment, I only hope that perhaps the guests the gold/silver members will obviously be bringing will perhaps also take an interest in future shows at the brewhouse and support the theatre going forward. I can also only suggest that perhaps in future if potentially popular artists are effectively going to be offered solely to members, please dont rub regular supporters noses in it by telling us - you have members news letters for that! Would it not have been possible to have offered public booking on perhaps one show or at least a percentage of tickets at one show? I feel that the theatre’s focus in this instance has been either elitist in its sales or ignorant of its regular clientele. Disappointed Brewhouse supporter.

Hi Jerry, The Brewhouse has long offered priority booking as one of the foremost benefits of our membership scheme. We are a relatively small theatre – only 350 seats, so many customers, on hearing that Lee Evans was coming, decided to take out a membership, we have sold over 140 new memberships in the past two weeks. We also tried to make the booking process as fair as possible by limiting ticket purchases to 4 per transaction. We don’t often sell out complete shows to members in advance of public booking, but with big names like Jo Brand, Jenny Eclair and Lee Evans this has become a possibility – and I am loath to apologise for bringing top quality comedy to the town. As our audience grows, so does demand for tickets, customers who came to Lucy Porter, come to our free Monday night comedy or signed up to our e-newsletter were given a ‘heads up’ regarding Lee Evans, and we always recommend that anyone wishing to get tickets for any show would be best advised to take out a membership. In particular our e-newsletter is free to sign-up to on this website – and is the best way to make sure that you find out first about any special events or offers happening at The Brewhouse. I am delighted that you are a supporter of the work we are doing to engage with a wider public, so why not become a friend? Far from your unfair charge of ignorance or elitism it is open to anyone, costs as little as £20 (less than the cost of travel to see Lee Evans elsewhere), shows tangible support for what we are trying to do in Taunton and gives a years worth of priority booking – and who knows what might be in your ambitious, intimate local theatre next!

Hi i was so excited to see that Lee Evans would be coming to youre Brewhouse on two dates. And understood that public tickets would be avaliable on sale today, i got up early too be dissapointed by the fact that all the tickets had already been sold, i understand that you have to give priority to the members who have paid a fee, but i think thats its crazy that you leave it a whole week b4 the public can buy any? Also quite annoyed to hear that some have gone on ebay already!!

Hi Mike, Sorry to hear about that. We were closed for the Easter Bank Holiday and this information was posted on our website and printed in our brochure. The comedians' booker did know about this but sent comedians in error. It's always worth checking via the website before you set out as we post updated information there. Brew Ha Ha is back tonight so hopefully we'll see you there

I have attended numerous comedy shows and seen the very best to the downright dreadful. Well I went along to the Comedy Club last night for the second time traveling up from Exeter and last nights comedians were without doubt the worst I have ever witnessed. Even the first act last week who, to my recollection didn't get a single laugh throughout his set was better than last nights bunch. The compere did a reasonable job on his 1st visit to the mic put then deteriorated with every subsequent visit. The female comedian showed promise with her opening line. Oh boy..she should have stopped then. The rest of her act consisted of a long winded tale of Anal Sex, Blow Jobs and slashing Cocks. I am no prude but this subject matter does not make good comedy. The only laughter I can recall was uncomfortable from the audience which I felt were not over happy with this type of material. Oh and the odd loud bout of laughter came from one of the future acts who, I guess was hoping that this would be repaid when he took to the mic. Not to be too down on the girl, she is obviously intelligent and her wording and delivery showed promise. My advice is to put your mind to better things than the cheap and dirty material based around sex and toilet humour. Anyway, having squirmed my way through to the end of this girls act I looked forward to the next guy safe in the knowledge that he was unlikely to be any worse. Now, this guy did show a glimpse of comedy talent with his quick observations on a few of the photographs on display and rather quirky perspective on chart songs and world events. He also didn't need to revert to the underwear dept and too much foul language. So well done to him. Not brilliant and no doubt made to look better by having followed such a poor act. Nonetheless, some hard work on his material and he could be alright. Now to the so called headliner. I can't say too much about this blokes act cos I didn't hang around to its conclusion. Once again shortly into his act he was referring to the underwear department and anal sex. This was enough to convince me that nothing worth waiting for was going to be forthcoming from this guy, and left. Robert Miles did address the audience before the acts in a bid to encourage to spread the word of free comedy at The Brewhouse and other free acts that are planned for the future. Well the Brewhouse has been the subject of a few conversations today but sadly not in a positive light. I know it was free entry and I have learned in the past not to have any great expectations of anything that is free, but last night was a shocker. Might I suggest that the charging of a small entrance fee, say a fiver and use the extra income to bring in better than was put before us last night.

Went to comedy night tonight 6/10/08. Fantastic acts, shame about the organisation. Could hardly hear the start of the headline act because of people leaving the theatre and talking outside. Then compounding that was the staff talking at the end of the headline act. When i talked to them explaining that i could not hear the act, they were not bothered and just said that they had to talk about what they were doing. All they had to do was talk quieter, or wait 5 mins. You talk so much about wanting us to support free comedy in Taunton, and we do, but if your staff do not match your ambitions, how do you expect the people of Taunton to do so!
