Well Philip, we did get under your skin, I have never seen so many exclamation marks and written nearly a month after the show finished. The Brewhouse received very balanced feedback on the show, as you can see in this forum, some loved it, some hated it. Just because Disney made money from their film doesn't make it the only acceptable version and children enjoy having their imaginations stretched. Our point was that the story is originally Chinese and we wanted to celebrate that. I don't know what that has to do with my ego, but I take your comments on board and accept that you don't like my work. At least it stirred some emotion in you, which is what we theatre is all about. I am grateful that you came to the show and felt moved to give us your honest opinion on it. Many thanks, Robert Miles Director.

There's a reason the 'bland Disney Cinderella' made so much money because it entertains both adults and children alike. This version was patronising and pants from start to finish and a waste of tax payers money, arts council money and local council money. It was nothing more than a chance for a director to spout his ego on the stage. It had very little to do with Cinderella whats so ever. An absolute nightmare. The poor cast tried hard to make something that was well and truly appalling come to life. The director and the bloke who adapted it need to find new jobs because they clearly aren't any good at the ones they do! Did this show even receive any direction? It didn't appear so! What an absolute disaster!!

Mixed comments already. I generally agree with the "disappointing" views. The cast worked hard, but for children younger than 8-9, this was a confusing and at times depressing tale, and there were plenty of unsold seats. For 2009, please can we have a TRADITIONAL panto? No empty seats for that, I wager!

Great show, really enjoyed the performances and clever references to the original story being Chinese. We only know the bland Disney version so refreshing to see it done differently. Music was great, especially the actors playing live, although the singing was too quiet at times. Brave of the Brewhouse to be different even if some don't appreciate or understand it. We had a good chat with our kids afterwards about different stories in other cultures which ended with them looking up the Santa legend in Asia on the web on xmas eve. Keep up the good work!

We endured a very disappointing afternoon. We found the story so sad that in no way could it be called 'festive' as in the advertisments. It was certainly not the happy Christmas tale that we expected. It was over an hour before we moved on from the tale of a family returning from the 1st WW to find many family members dead. Yet some parts of the second half were pantomime-like. I'm afraid that the performance could not decide whether it was a serious play or a pantomime.

I couldn't disagree more, our two loved the show and were hooked all the way through. They knew more about the WW1 setting than I did as they did a big 90th anniversary project with school last month. Thanks to the Brewhouse for making a seasonal show with some intelligence behind it, great performers all playing instruments, lovely costumes, local references in the script and supported by the great gallery/cafe space with clothes to play with and the ice rink outside. I really recommend this as a great thing to do with the kids this xmas. Michelle

What a disappointing afternoon it was for me, my sister, her grand children aged 7 and 9. The whole performance was an endurance rather than an entertainment - we sat there wondering when the whole thing was going to get going and we would have some laughs - it never really happened, though there were a few moments the children enjoyed. The WW1 beginning and especially the ending were confusing and dull for young children as was the Chinese connection. The performance should have ended with the delight of Cinderella and her Prince Charming arriving in their carriage which was lovely. Most of the children were bored and fidgety throughout most of the performance as were the adults - not only us but the ones in the seats around us with younger children - several of whom left. What a pity, we had been looking forward to it so much and it was so disappointing.
