Mike Rennie’s work stems from his responses and memories of particular places, environments and artworks. The constructions operate alongside drawings, collages and paintings but seem to have a life of their own, a kind of parallel synthesis of what he is doing.
The combination of materials and their associations and history is a major catalyst and he responds to their physicality and subsequent juxtaposition, a spark between the manufactured and the natural – a new existence, he hopes, for cast-offs and leftovers. Mike Rennie studied at Sunderland and Liverpool Colleges of Art, he is currently visiting lecturer at Wiltshire college in Trowbridge.
