CHINA NOW in Taunton
WESTIVAL 2008 - CHINA NOW
CHINA NOW in Taunton
Sat 5th July 2008 - Sat 2nd August 2008
To support My CHINA NOW, an exhibition of Chinese short films, currently showing in the Brewhouse Gallery, these photographs document one of the events that have taken place under the banner of ‘CHINA NOW in Taunton’.
On Monday 30th June, 2008, the famous historic Hestercombe Gardens had a special day of celebration as it officially opened the newly restored 250 year old Chinese Seat. The day was organised jointly with the Somerset Chinese Association and included a Lion and Unicorn dance, firecrackers, Tai Chi demonstration as well as a Chinese buffet in the Bampfylde Hall.
CHINA NOW is the largest festival of Chinese culture ever to take place in the UK and is timed to coincide with
the run up to the Beijing Olympic Games. The documentary photographs in the Exhibition were taken by Tom Lindsey.
The Brewhouse would like to thank Hestercombe Gardens and Tom Lindsey for supporting this exhibition.

CHINA NOW
This bold new initiative between The Brewhouse and Hestercombe Gardens aims to bring international Chinese contemporary art to Taunton as well as developing work with the local Chinese population and other community groups. The series of events will begin with the launch of the new Chinese Seat at Hestercombe Gardens on Tuesday 1 July and end in September as the Olympic flame is handed to Britain from Beijing.
